The Melnik Pyramids are rock formations scattered around the entire region around the town of Melnik and the villages of Karlanovo and Rozhen. There is a wonderful tourist trail between Melnik and the Rozhen Monastery which takes about an hour. At its upper end (near the monastery) there’s a place that provides a nice panoramic view and is perfect for sunrise photos. It would be hard for me to describe how you can get to it but when you’re there, you’ll easily find it. There is path that diverges from the marked road and goes along a ridge to the side, leading to a lonely tree rising from the edge of the slope. From here you can see a great part of the rock formations in the area and it’s a suitable place for enjoying the sunrise and the beauty of nature.
The Melnik Pyramids are located at the south-western foot of Pirin, in the region of the town of Melnik. There’s a marked trail to the Rozhen Monastery that starts from the town. Following it, you’ll be able to take a look at part of the pyramids. Some of the most interesting views are really close to the monastery so if you’re not a walking type of person, you could see the pyramids by combining them with a trip to the Rozhen Monastery. The path that will lead you out to panoramic views to the sand pyramids starts from the monastery itself – if I’m not mistaken, from the very parking site or from the grass area between it and the monastery. The last time I took it was in 2014 and it didn’t take me long to find it. You can reach both panoramic view spots (where the photos here were shot) in about 10min. There are a few really narrow sections so be careful, especially if you’re with children.
