The village of Kesten is located in the Rhodopes Mountains, not far from the village of Trigrad, the Trigrad gorge and the Dyavolskoto garlo cave (Devil's Throat). During the Communism the village area was close to the Iron Curtain and the fact that it was well guarded and not easily accessible helped it stay relatively unspoiled. In the vicinity of the village is located the managed nature reserve 'Shabanitsa' declared to protect a venerable beech-spruce forest.
To get to the village of Kesten continue south from the village Trigrad along the way that follows the Trigrad river. The distance is about 9 km. The road is narrow and the last part before the village of Kesten is rather rough (probably not particularly suitable for all type of cars).
