The village of Paril

Except for being a village with splendid old houses, Paril is a starting point for Slavyanka mountain as well. An hour away is Slavyanka hut. In summertime it takes about 3 hours and a half to get from it to Golyam Tsarev Vrah peak (2183 metres altitude). A panoramic view to the rest of the mountain reveals from there. An hour and something away is the highest peak in Slavyanka – Gotsev vrah peak (Ali botush) – 2212 m above the sea level. When there is snow this way to the summit isn't recommended since it crosses a very steep gully where the avalanche danger is exremly high. During the winter hikes to the top are possible from the other side of the mountain. There is a marked trail which starts 3 km before the village of Goleshovo and goes to the Alibotush summit. The avalanche danger there is considerable lower.

Most of the mountain is within 'Alibotush' reserve, set up in 1951 aiming to preserve a number of rare and threatened plants and animals. Some relict woods of black fir (Pinus heldreichii) and black pine (Pinus nigra) are also preserved in it.

Paril village is situated in the south-west of Bulgaria, 29 km to the south of Gotse Delchev, near the mountains of Slavyanka and Pirin. If you travel by car, about 6 km on the south of Gotse Delchev, down the road to Checkpoint Ilinden, enter the village of Koprivlen. A few streets after the square of the village there is a sign pointing the road to Gaytaninovo, Laki and Paril.
